Why Travelers Choose Kingdom of Happiness Tours

More Than a Bhutan Tour Operator — We Are Your Bhutanese Family. We Focus on Experience, Trust, and Personal Care

Founded in 2018, we are a Bhutanese-owned and Bhutan-based licensed tour operator. Born and raised in the Kingdom, our local team offers authentic travel experiences, genuine cultural connections, and insider knowledge that can only come from those who know Bhutan from the inside out—insights and experiences that only true Bhutanese Tour Operators can offer.

01

You are not a tourist — you are our private guest

We do not call you a client or a booking number. When you travel with us, you become our personal guest, and we welcome you the way we would welcome someone into our own home.

We are genuinely excited to show you the Bhutan we grew up in — not the version designed for mass tourism.

02

Your happiness is our only measure of success

We do not measure success by profit margins. At Kingdom of Happiness Tours, a satisfied guest is the foundation of everything — because a happy traveller becomes our most powerful ambassador.

Growth, for us, follows genuine happiness, not the other way around.

03

Itineraries that go beyond the expected

We honour the classics — the iconic monasteries, dzongs, and valleys that make Bhutan extraordinary. But we go further.

From monastery stays, sacred cave explorations, Himalayan camping, yoga retreats, helicopter tours, and food discovery journeys to honeymoons, destination weddings, living village experiences, and our signature No Internet Retreat — we create Bhutan journeys that no one else offers.

04

Quality Over Quantity, Always

We do not operate on high-volume tourism. Our focus is to provide carefully managed, personalised travel experiences where every guest receives proper attention, care, and flexibility.

We believe travel should feel meaningful, not rushed or industrialised.

05

Fair, Fixed, and Honest Pricing

We do not offer unrealistically low prices that compromise service quality, nor do we charge inflated rates without reason.

Our pricing is fair, fixed, and aligned with the level of service we provide — based on real operational costs, personalised planning, and on-ground support.

We believe in honest value, not price competition.

06

Experience First. Profit Follows.

Our primary focus is delivering exceptional travel experiences that genuinely satisfy our guests.

We aim for every traveller to leave Bhutan saying:

“This was one of the best experiences of our life.”

We believe that when guest satisfaction is achieved, everything else follows naturally — including trust, referrals, positive reviews, and word-of-mouth recommendations to friends and family.

07

Flexible Payment and Complete Travel Support

We support you through every stage of your Bhutan journey, including:

  • visa processing
  • permits
  • accommodation
  • transportation
  • guides
  • customised itinerary planning
  • full travel coordination

To provide flexibility and peace of mind, we offer two payment options:

  • full advance payment, or
  • 50% advance to secure visa and bookings, with the remaining balance payable upon arrival in Bhutan.

Simple, transparent, and built on mutual trust.

At Kingdom of Happiness Tours, we believe that exceptional service, honest communication, and personalised care create the most meaningful travel experiences — and long-lasting relationships built on trust.

08

Experience First. Profit Follows.

Our primary focus is delivering exceptional travel experiences that genuinely satisfy our guests.

We aim for every traveller to leave Bhutan saying:

“This was one of the best experiences of our life.”

We believe that when guest satisfaction is achieved, everything else follows naturally — including trust, referrals, positive reviews, and word-of-mouth recommendations to friends and family.

08

100% Customised Bhutan Journeys — Designed With You, Not For You

We believe every traveller invests their valuable time, money, and expectations into a Bhutan journey — and that deserves respect, attention, and genuine care. That is why we do not believe in fixed or rigid tour planning. Instead, we design every itinerary through open discussion with our guests, taking time to understand what they truly want from their journey. We listen first. Then we plan. We do not try to control your holiday or push a pre-set program. We do not act as if we know better than you about your own experience. Instead, we work alongside you to shape a journey that matches your expectations, comfort, and travel style.

Our approach is simple:

  • We listen carefully
  • We suggest based on real local experience
  • We customise respectfully around your preferences
  • We adjust the journey until it feels right for you

Because at the end of the day, this is your holiday — not ours.

Our role is to guide, support, and design the experience with you, ensuring your time in Bhutan is meaningful, comfortable, and truly your own.

Planning a Bhutan tour in 2026? Here’s the most important number to understand first: the Bhutan Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) is currently USD $100 per person per night — down from USD $200. This reduced rate was introduced in 2023 to encourage post-pandemic tourism and runs until August 31, 2027, making 2026 one of the best windows to experience Bhutan at a historically accessible price.

$100

Bhutan SDF 2026 — Confirmed Rate
Per person, per night · All ages 12+ · Valid until 31 Aug 2027

The SDF and Visa Fees is separate from your tour package cost. Think of it as Bhutan’s sustainability contribution — the money directly funds free healthcare, free education, environmental protection, and cultural preservation across the kingdom. When you pay the SDF, you’re not paying for your tour. You’re investing in an entire nation.

Beyond the SDF and visa fees, your all-inclusive tour package covers your dedicated licensed Bhutanese guide, private SUV vehicle and professional driver, all meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee and snack breaks), all accommodation, and all entry fees to museums, monasteries, and cultural sites. There are no vendor commissions, no pressure shopping, no tourist traps. Bhutan’s model, by design, delivers an experience that mass-market destinations simply cannot.

For Indian nationals, the SDF structure is different — approximately INR 1,200 per night.

Complete Bhutan Visa Guide & SDF Fee — 2026 Updated Information

Bhutan’s tourism system is one of the most unique in the world, built on a deliberate “high value, low impact” philosophy to protect its culture, environment, and way of life. While the visa process has evolved in recent years to become more accessible for international travellers, navigating it correctly — with the right documentation, SDF fee calculation, approved itinerary, and entry requirements — can be complex and easy to get wrong without local knowledge.

Working with a licensed Bhutan tour operator ensures your visa is processed accurately and on time, your SDF fees are correctly covered, your itinerary meets all government requirements, and you have a dedicated expert handling every detail before and during your trip. Any mistake in the application process can cause unnecessary delays or complications — something no traveller wants just before an exciting journey.

We handle your complete Bhutan visa process from start to finish, giving you full peace of mind so you can focus entirely on the experience ahead.

How to Get a Bhutan Visa — Step by Step Guide

01

Get in touch with us to design your travel itinerary that suits you

We will customise your itinerary together — after all, it’s your precious time and valuable resources, and we don’t take that lightly. Reach out to us through whichever messaging platform you’re most comfortable with, and we’ll take it from there. We’ll discuss your travel dates, group size, and interests, and design a custom Bhutan tour package for you.

02

Confirm and arrange payment

Once you’re happy with the package, you can transfer the full tour cost (including SDF and visa fees) in one go. Or, if you’d prefer not to commit the full amount based on online conversation alone, you can transfer 50% upfront to begin your visa processing and accommodation reservations, and bring the remaining balance in cash to settle with us once you arrive in Bhutan. Online transfers can be made via WISE using our bank’s SWIFT code, or by credit card at your convenience — though credit card payments carry a higher processing cost than WISE transfers.

03

Send your documents

After payment is received, send us a scanned copy of your passport (valid for at least 6 months beyond your departure date) and a recent passport-sized photograph.

04

We apply for your visa

We submit your application along with the one-time, non-refundable visa fee (USD $40 per person) and the Sustainable Development Fee (USD $100 per night per person) to the Department of Immigration on your behalf. Standard processing takes a minimum of 3 working days. If your travel dates are approaching quickly, a speedy visa processing option is also available for some additional charges — just let us know and we’ll arrange it for you.

05

Receive your e-Visa

Your e-Visa clearance is emailed to you. You’re welcome to print a copy or simply have it ready on your phone — either works for check-in and arrival in Bhutan. That’s it, you’re ready to travel.

100% Bhutan Visa Approval — Zero Rejections in 7 Years

Worried about Bhutan visa rejection? With nearly 7 years of experience handling visas for clients from every background and nationality, we have achieved a 100% visa approval rate — with not a single rejection to date.

Bhutan Travel Planning Guide 2026

Best Time to Visit Bhutan — Season-by-Season Guide & Festival Calendar

Bhutan is extraordinary in every season. The best time for Bhutan travel is widely considered spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) — clear skies, dramatic festival celebrations, and the most breathtaking Himalayan views. But every season offers something unique.

🌸

Spring

March · April · May
15°C – 20°C

Spring is Bhutan’s peak travel season — rhododendrons burst into crimson and pink across the hillsides, with the Bhutan Rhododendron Festival at Lamperi’s Royal Botanical Park (April 13–14, 2026) showcasing 29 of the country’s 46 native species through garden walks, cultural performances, and local cuisine. The remote valley of Sheytemi in Merak also hosts its own early-April rhododendron celebration, perfect for travellers seeking an off-the-beaten-path experience. With clear skies, crisp mountain air, and the unmissable Paro Tshechu (March 29–April 2, 2026), it’s easy to see why spring is widely considered the best time to visit Bhutan.

☁️

Summer in Bhutan: the green season

June · July · August
20°C – 28°C

Summer in Bhutan is when the kingdom turns lush and vivid — valleys deepen in green, waterfalls swell, and the landscape feels fresh and dramatic. While occasional rains may affect high-altitude treks, it’s the perfect time to explore dzongs, monasteries, and valley towns with far fewer crowds and warmer local interactions. We also offer a special discount on tour packages during summer, making it ideal for travellers seeking both authenticity and value. Bhutan truly is a year-round destination — summer is simply its most vibrant green.

🍂

Autumn in Bhutan: the festival and trekking season

September · October · November
10°C – 22°C

Autumn is widely regarded as the best season to visit Bhutan. Farmers have just finished their harvest and are in a relaxed mood, and the whole nation comes alive in a festive spirit. Crystal-clear skies reveal the Himalayas in full glory, golden forests blanket the valleys, and the calendar is packed with celebrations: Thimphu Tshechu (September 21–23), along with festivals in Bumthang, Phobjikha, Chhukha, and Haa, plus the Mountain Festival and Royal Highland Festival. It’s also Bhutan’s finest season for photography and high-altitude trekking. As one of the busiest seasons, we recommend booking 3–6 months in advance to secure your preferred dates and accommodations.

❄️

Winter in Bhutan: the crane and snow season

December · January · February
-3°C – 12°C

Winter in Bhutan is cold but strikingly beautiful — snow-capped peaks gleam against impossibly blue skies, and for travellers who have never seen snow before, this is the perfect chance to experience it. While high mountain passes may close, valleys remain accessible and peaceful, with fewer tourists offering a chance for genuine connection with local communities. Winter is also the only time of year the rare Black-necked Cranes migrate to Phobjikha Valley, celebrated each year at the Black-necked Crane Festival (November 11) — a magical transition into the winter season.

Local Insight from Our Guides: October is statistically our most-booked month — and for good reason. The combination of clear skies, harvest ambiance, and Himalayan visibility is unmatched. But don’t overlook March. The Paro Tshechu combined with rhododendron forests and comfortable temperatures makes spring just as magical, and slightly less crowded than peak October.

Bhutan Travel Guide 2026

Things to Do in Bhutan & Essential Travel Tips for First Timers

Real answers to the questions every first-time Bhutan visitor asks — written by Bhutanese people who live here. These are the Bhutan travel tips for first timers that actually make a difference to your trip.

💵 Is Bhutan Expensive to Visit? (Bhutan Travel Cost)

Bhutan travel cost: $100/day SDF + $90–180/day for 3-star Bhutan packages (guide, meals, transport, hotel). A Bhutan itinerary for 7 days ranges from $1,400–2,200 all-inclusive. Bhutan trip cost for couples on shared basis is lower. Luxury Bhutan tours (Amankora) start at $5,000+ per person. We provide a fully itemized quote — free, no obligation.

🗺️ How to Visit Bhutan — Can You Travel Independently?

How to visit Bhutan: All international tourists (except Indian, Bangladeshi, Maldivian nationals) must book through a licensed Bhutan tour operator and travel with a certified guide. This is Bhutan's "high value, low impact" tourism policy — not a restriction, but a protection of Bhutan's culture and environment that makes Bhutan tourism better for everyone.

🐾 Tiger's Nest Hike — Complete Guide to Paro Taktsang

The Tiger's Nest hike (Paro Taktsang) is a 5–6 hour round-trip gaining ~900m. Difficulty: moderate. Horses to the halfway café. The monastery dates to 1692, clings to a 900-foot cliff face. Summit is 5–8°C cooler than Paro. Bring layers and water. Among the most essential things to do in Bhutan — utterly unmissable on every Bhutan itinerary.

🏛️ Best Monasteries in Bhutan — Complete List

The best monasteries in Bhutan include: Paro Taktsang (Tiger's Nest), Kyichu Lhakhang (7th century), Punakha Dzong, Tashichho Dzong, Jambay Lhakhang in Bumthang, and Gangtey Monastery in Phobjikha Valley. Our Bhutan monastery tour visits the most significant sacred sites with deep local interpretation by our certified Bhutanese guides.

🥘 Bhutanese Food — What to Eat in Bhutan

Bhutan's national dish is Ema Datshi — fresh green chilies stewed with yak cheese. Red rice, buckwheat pancakes (khur-le), and yak butter tea are staples. Food is hearty, warming, and genuinely spicy. We arrange all meals for all Bhutan travel packages and accommodate vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free diets throughout your Bhutan trip on request.

⛰️ Altitude & Health in Bhutan — What to Expect

Paro sits at 2,200m and Thimphu at 2,334m — manageable for most travelers. Bhutan trekking packages cross passes up to 5,320m on the Snowman Trek. We build acclimatization days into all high-altitude Bhutan trips. All guides carry altitude medication and comprehensive first-aid kits. Your safety is our priority on every Bhutan adventure tour.

Frequently Asked Questions About Bhutan Tourism & Travel

Real answers about Bhutan tour packages, visa, SDF, trekking, costs, and booking — written by Bhutanese locals who know this kingdom inside out.

Yes. All international tourists (except Indian, Bangladeshi, and Maldivian nationals) require a Bhutan tourist visa. Unlike most countries, you cannot apply yourself — it must be arranged through a TCB-licensed Bhutan tour operator like us. We handle your entire Bhutan visa for tourists process. Your clearance permit takes 3–5 working days; your physical visa is stamped in your passport at Paro Airport on arrival. Our 100% approval rate across 20 years speaks for itself.
The Bhutan SDF fee (Sustainable Development Fee) is a mandatory government charge of $100 per person per night for international tourists. It directly funds free Bhutanese healthcare, education, carbon programs, and cultural preservation. Yes — the Bhutan SDF fee is included in all our tour quotes. Zero surprise charges. Every cost is itemized before you commit to any Bhutan holiday package.
Total Bhutan travel cost depends on duration, accommodation tier, and group size. A 7-day Bhutan holiday package (3-star hotels, private guide, all meals, transport) typically costs $1,400–2,200 per person all-inclusive, including SDF. Bhutan trip cost for couples on a shared basis is lower. Luxury Bhutan tours at Amankora start at $5,000+ per person. We provide a transparent itemized quote — completely free, no commitment.
For standard Bhutan cultural tours, book 2–3 months ahead. For Bhutan festival tours (Paro Tshechu, Thimphu Tshechu), book 4–6 months ahead — these sell out every year without exception. For Bhutan luxury tours at Amankora or Six Senses, lodges sell out up to a year in advance during spring and autumn. Contact us as early as possible to secure your preferred dates and the best accommodation for your Bhutan travel packages.
Absolutely — every customized Bhutan trip we design is built from scratch for you. We don’t sell rigid packages. Tell us your interests (photography, birding, spirituality, luxury resorts, adventure, festivals), fitness level, budget, and travel dates. Our Bhutan travel experts build a fully tailor made Bhutan tour and provide a Bhutan tour quote within 24 hours — completely free, zero commitment required.

The fundamental difference is local ownership and authenticity. We are Bhutanese — born, raised, and operating from Thimphu, Bhutan. Our guides are permanent Bhutanese employees, not freelance contractors. Every rupee we earn stays in Bhutan. Other operators like Druk Asia operate primarily from Singapore — meaning your money flows out of Bhutan. Additionally, we offer smaller, more intimate Bhutan trips, deeper cultural access through our local relationships, and a level of personalized care that international agencies structurally cannot provide.
